2017 has come and gone, and the new year is here. For many, that brings new year’s resolutions! May we suggest one of our own: take better care of your teeth and gums! Here are 4 items to consider as you set out on your new oral health goals.
The Right Brush: Replace your toothbrush quarterly– sooner if it appears frayed or worn. Be sure to choose a soft-bristled brush with the right size and shape to reach all areas of your mouth.
Floss: Choose a single-filament dental floss when possible, and floss once a day for 2 minutes. This cleans the areas of your mouth (in between the teeth) that toothbrushes cannot clean effectively.
Toothpaste: There are specially-formulated toothpastes for sensitive teeth, teeth whitening, and other specific tasks–talk with Dr. Ryan Wilson to see which toothpaste is best for your specific oral health needs.
Proper Brushing Technique: Remember, a soft touch is required! Brushing too hard can damage your enamel, your gums, and your toothbrush. Position your toothbrush at a 45* angle to your gums and use short, back-and-forth strokes to clean food, debris, and plaque away from your teeth and gums.
