Oral hygiene is very important for your child’s smile and oral health, which is why our dentist, Dr. Ryan Wilson, strongly encourages you to weave healthy oral hygiene habits into your child’s life as much as possible. Now, we understand that this might be a tough task, but, fortunately, there are things you can do to make it a little easier.

The first thing is to let your child pick their toothbrush. If they have a toothbrush they are excited to use, they will be more motivated to brush their teeth. Some kids like toothbrushes with their favorite cartoon characters on it while others like toothbrushes with their favorite superhero or princess.

The second thing is to make oral hygiene fun. As your child brushes, turn on a song that makes them want to wiggle and dance. There is nothing wrong with making oral hygiene a brushing and flossing party! So, turn on a two-minute song and let them dance as they brush.

The third thing is to make oral hygiene a team effort. All you need to do is brush while your child brushes. This can even teach your child how to properly brush and floss because they can see you do it. It can also help you increase the quality time you two spend together.
